Marketplace Glyde: Simplifying online sales

Do you have old books, CDs and plenty of stuff that is just collecting dust on your shelves? Check this out and maybe you can learn something for your own e-commerce site! Apparently your trash will find out a new way to be sold online. Glyde, which is a startup created by former eBay motors founder Simon Rothman, was launched in November 2009.

According to Rothman, other e-commerce sites have made online transactions too time consuming and complex for buyers and sellers. Glyde’s debut may prove that online commerce needed something new, innovative, easy and efficient. If you would like to have a site like that just keep reading about e-commerce development.

What is Glyde all about?

The idea is to create an online marketplace that combines the great deals of a person-to-person online marketplace with the easiness, simplicity, and protection of a retail store. It will provide single-purchasing for buyers and 10 second item listing for sellers.

Buying

You can buy quality used and new products at bargain prices and receive the same service and protection as at a retail store. Glyde guarantees a return policy, payment protection and reliable sellers.

Selling

It is really easy! There are no descriptions to write, no pictures to upload and no emails to be sent. Moreover, you will be able to donate a part of your profits to charity with just a click. Isn’t that great?  Glyde charges sellers a 10% item when an item sells, with no upfront fees. The seller pays $1.25 for the mailing envelope and is expected to ship the items within a day.

Glyde will have to face a huge challenge since most online shoppers already trust giants such as eBay or Amazon. One drawback we can identify is that unlike eBay, buyers won’t have access to feedback scores, a measure of a seller’s reliability that many online shoppers have gotten used to consulting. What do you think about it? Is there enough room for a new online marketplace?
