The new Web site concentrates a community of developers interested in Web speed and online performance and how to make browsers, Web applications and sites much faster. Interestingly, it will not only provide tutorials, suggestions and tools; but also let developers to submit ideas and questions through a forum.

As speed is an increasing need for clients, the main search engines are helping web designers test the velocity and effectiveness of their Web Sites.

Interestingly, Yahoo has done something similar before: YSlow that allows people to identify their mistakes and make their Web sites both faster and more enjoyable for users.

Yahoo, and now also Google with PageSpeed are willing to make us feel as part of the project. In this sense, they’re not only advisors, but also partners of the fellow designers. Building a community means giving them the possibility of interacting and even creating a Think Tank on Web design issues.

So, if you just want to evaluate your velocity performance, you can use those services. But, if you are also willing to take other designers advices or share your own perspective, it is highly recommendable to become part of the new Google’s community. Your decision will depend on which your interest on velocity is.

The growth of multimedia documents including collections of music, photos and videos demands the improvement of the quality and speed of the Web Sites. Immediateness seems to be the goal.
