Communicating online your Social Responsibility

As you know, more and more customers are getting interested in companies that are responsible with the environment and the sustainable development of the society. Thus, small and medium size businesses should also show that their interests go beyond making profits and they are embracing responsibility for the impact of their activities both socially and environmentally.

A good strategy for starting is to build a “Green Image”. Green companies operate in ways that solve, rather than cause both environmental and social problems. The term “green” refers to products and services whose manufacture and use are made towards conserving resources for the future generations. Try selling products that are environmentally friendly or organic. Reduce their natural damage as much as you can! You can also focus on packaging. Choose recycling material for that too!

In the other hand, what you can do online? A good idea could be having a blog or a newsletter where you give information about your social and green activities and encourage your customers to become green too! You can provide tips to recycle the products that you provide (if that’s possible), or give recommendations for having a green lifestyle. Just try relating your product or services with the advice you provide.

Furthermore, another good idea is making people feel part of the responsible work. For example, you can do some charity or organize a social cause to donate a specific amount of money or a percentage for each product that you sell. Involve your customers and work together! Make them feel that being your clients, they can become better people too! You can also add your campaign to Facebook and get more attention and buzz!

Let customers know that you are constantly working on charity or nature focused projects online. For instance, become a member of a Green Non-Governmental Organization or green oriented networks. Show customers that you are part of the innovating on the Corporate Social Responsibility field.

In summary, it is really important to show social interests for two reasons. You are not only contributing to make this world a better place, but also your customers will construct a better image of your company. You will show them that you are interested beyond sales: you care about your surroundings, the society as a whole. Show your human face! Internet has a lot of tools to organize green campaigns and get attention.

Which are the benefits of embracing a Social vision? Above all, you will be constructing a better reputation in the business atmosphere. Moreover, you will be also gaining and retaining customers that will embrace your philosophy. So what you are waiting for? Become green! Become social!
